On August 29, 2022, Turkey stated that it would implement the rulings of the arbitrators in “Turkey — Pharmaceutical Products (EU)” (DS583).

On July 25, 2022, the arbitrators issued an award, finding that Turkey’s requirement that foreign producers of pharmaceuticals move their production to Turkey did not comply with WTO rules. The award was recognized by WTO members including the European Union, Japan and the United States.

This case was the first appeal arbitration between WTO members after the Appellate Body ceased operation at the end of 2019. Professor Yang Guohua of THU School of Law as one of the three arbitrators participated in the whole course of trial of this case.
